Offline Meetup on Learning and Mentorship in Development
We hosted a unique Mentors Meetup, gathering over 100 developers, team leads, and technical specialists to discuss alternative paths for professional growth and the importance of mentorship in the IT industry.
We are accustomed to the idea that a developer or IT engineer's grade is determined by levels such as Junior, Middle, and Senior. It's well-known that advancing to a higher grade requires honing not just hard, but also soft skills. But is there another way to "grow" without changing your stack as a developer? This was the focus of the Mentors Meetup, which took place on July 24 in Voronezh.
Mentors Meetup is an event of a completely new format for us: in one room, we gathered over a hundred developers, team leads, and technical specialists who not only want to improve their professional skills but are also eager to nurture the next generation of talent.
Our top speakers, who have extensive technical backgrounds and experience in mentoring, coaching, and even teaching at one of the best universities in the country, delivered presentations at the meetup.
- Grigory Petrov, DevRel at Evrone (who hosts podcasts and is writing a Python textbook), discussed alternative career paths for programmers and the role of technical experts in commercial development.
- Alexander Kirillov, CTO of Evrone (an active participant in our Evrone Academy project and leader of internships for DevOps engineers), shared insights on the process of turning interns into true professionals.
- Pavel Argentov, Team Lead and Mentor at Evrone (and a lecturer at Bauman Moscow State Technical University), expanded the audience's minds with his talk on Ruby as a powerful tool in mentoring. For two and a half hours, the speakers delved into the aspects of professional growth and mentorship. They discussed the skills needed to be a good mentor and the unconventional career paths in IT.
During the breaks, participants had the opportunity not only to chat with each other over coffee but also to ask the speakers their questions. Those who were the most inquisitive and original were awarded certificates for a zipline ride over the nearby lake.
Evrone has been gathering like-minded individuals from the IT world for many years, those who want to grow in their profession and support the community. We organize conferences and meetups in both online and offline formats, record lectures, and produce podcasts.
